促腎上腺皮質(zhì)激素(ACTH)是由腦垂體前葉分泌的多肽激素，作用于腎上腺皮質(zhì)刺激腎上腺類固醇、醛固酮、皮質(zhì)醇和腎上腺雄激素的合成和分泌，也是男子重要的糖皮質(zhì)激素皮質(zhì)醇的主要的調(diào)節(jié)者。ACTH是下丘腦-腦垂體-腎上腺軸的重要組成部分，通常是在生物應(yīng)激反應(yīng)中產(chǎn)生的。當(dāng)血中的皮質(zhì)醇水平增高，腦垂體釋放的促腎上腺皮質(zhì)激素被抑制，相反，腦垂體釋放的促腎上腺皮質(zhì)激素的水平則提高。促腎上腺皮質(zhì)激素在每天清晨(6:00-8:00)達(dá)到峰值，到零時降到最-低狀態(tài)。
